The Guardian has a special report here on writers’ rooms. Each writer's writing space has been descried with a photograph and a few paras as to why they keep it the way they do and how they like their study rooms to be.
One thing I noticed....is that the women definitely seem to have tidier studies than their male counterparts. And that a lot of these writers seem to have colored their study completely with red. I am not sure I can ever work with so much red around.
The article is lovely, it gives you a good insight on some great writers' writing space. I love seeing beautiful libraries...that seems to have become a habit of late, and I can think of nothing but filling my own with more books and working on the desk with only the study lamp on.
You know, I have always fancied reading under a study lamp. I had one even when I was just six years old, and the only thing which made me even remotely want to start studying was the desk with the study lamp lit on it. It always made me feel important and gave me a sort of virtuous concentration that nothing else did.
Even while designing our apartment, the only thing I really really wanted was a library, and though it ended up being a small corner, instead of a full room; I just adore it. The corner helps me feel the desired silence, and the french-doors right behind gives a lovely view of the trees, the railway station, the flights taking off, begumpet flyover etc....
Anyways go have a look at the article...I am sure you will feel one with your favorite writers.
